This was an incredible hike! Fair warning: it took us a couple of times driving past to finally find the trailhead, but you will find it eventually, don't give up. The trails were also REALLY muddy so bring some good hiking shoes - or just be ready to get your feet muddy if you're dedicated to your Chacos, like me.
On our way to the hike, we drove past where we were supposed to stop and parked in a parking lot labeled "Bordeaux," which wasn't the right place at all. Then we continued driving down the road and passed a water treatment plant, then a correctional facility. At that point, we decided we totally missed it and turned around and continued searching until we found the cement vault - which is what the WTA website told us was where to start.
We finally found the right lot (and the cement vault) and we ventured into the woods.
It's fascinating to see all of the half-destroyed buildings and the bricks that are scattered all over the trail(s). It's really cool to see how the ghost town is integrated into the nature that surrounds it. There are metal pieces sticking up out of the ground and trees that started growing out of mechanical gears. The few structures that are still standing are overgrown with ivy and moss.
It's a truly beautiful sight and an awesome adventure and you need to explore it.
